Junk removal is hard physical work — hauling heavy furniture down stairs, loading appliances, clearing out garages in the California heat. So it’s a fair question: should you tip the crew, and if so, how much?
Tipping isn’t required, and a good company never expects it. But many customers choose to tip when a crew goes above and beyond — and it’s always appreciated. Think of it the same way you’d think about tipping movers.
Whether our team is handling a quick furniture removal job or a full garage cleanouts, we always aim to earn that kind of appreciation through great service.
There’s no hard rule, but here’s what’s generally considered fair. For a standard job, many customers tip $10 to $20 per crew member. For larger or more difficult jobs — heavy items, lots of stairs, extreme heat, or a particularly big load — tipping closer to $20 to $40 per person, or around 10–15% of the total job cost, is a generous and appreciated gesture.
That said, tipping is entirely optional. A reputable company pays its crew fairly and never pressures customers for tips. If you’re happy with the service but not in a position to tip, there are other meaningful ways to show appreciation: leaving a positive Google review, referring friends and neighbors, or offering the crew a cold drink on a hot day all go a long way.
At OC Junk Haulers, our crews show up to earn your business, tip or no tip. But if they impressed you, a kind word in a review helps our small local business more than you might realize.
